Jeep Fest to return to Toledo in 2020

The third Toledo Jeep Fest ended just a little over two months ago, but on Tuesday the event’s organizing committee announced that the popular weekend tribute to the iconic Toledo-made vehicle is returning next summer.

The 2020 Jeep Fest will be held the weekend of Aug. 7-9 at a variety of downtown sites, organizers said during a news conference held outdoors at Promenade Park downtown.

“We’ve decided, after a very short window, that we’ve going to come back and do this again next year,” said Jeep Fest organizing committee member Bruce Baumhower, president of UAW Local 12, whose members build Jeep Wranglers and Gladiators at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ Toledo Assembly Complex.

“That’s a quick turnaround. We just got done with Jeep Fest about two months ago and we kind of were scratching our heads and asking, ‘Is it too early to be doing this?’” Mr. Baumhower said while standing before a podium adorned with a new Jeep Fest logo: a Wagoneer with a canoe on the roof rack.

Four Wheeler Network: 2019 Toledo Jeep Fest

Brand dedication and pride are two of the top things that come to mind when you attend Toledo Jeep Fest. We have attended countless Jeep events over the decades, but Toledo Jeep Fest is a uniquely special event. In Toledo, the birthplace of the Willys Jeep (some may argue it is the birthplace of all Jeeps, but we will leave that argument to others), there is a passion for the Jeep brand. The entire city lives, breathes, and bleeds Jeep, and it’s not just because Toledo is the headquarters for Jeep; it goes deeper than that. Toledo understands the “Jeep Thing.” It doesn’t matter which Jeep model you drive. If you sport a seven- or nine-slot grille, you get a Jeep wave—and not just the two-finger acknowledgement but a full-fledged, out-the-window wave. Even the local TV stations embrace the Jeep lifestyle and have Jeep news vehicles. They spotlighted Jeep Fest during their daily news coverage and attended the events associated with Jeep Fest, and we saw some of the best Jeep commercials we’ve ever seen on local Toledo stations.

Jerry Huber and Pete Gerken talk Jeep Fest

It is so synonymous with Toledo, it’s almost easy to take for granted. But, the stout and sturdy four-wheel drive vehicle that powered our military during war time and which has supported thousands of families over generations in Toledo will get all the attention when the Toledo Jeep Fest rolls into our city next week.

Jerry Huber used to run the Toledo Jeep plant, now he heads the Jeep Fest steering committee. Pete Gerken — yes, a lucas county commissioner —might actually put that title in the back seat next week in favor of another: former Toledo Jeep worker.

Watch as they discuss Toledo Jeep Fest with Jerry Anderson at the Leading Edge table.
