Jeeps are about to take over the streets of downtown Toledo as this year’s edition of Toledo Jeep Fest hits high gear tomorrow. While most of the event focuses on the iconic vehicle, there will also be plenty of fun activities for the “junior Jeepers,” according to 13abc. Festival Park and the new upper-level space at Imagination Station will be transformed into Kid’s Zone this weekend.

“I think this last year has been so difficult for so many people, especially the kids who have been in and out of school,” says Amy Mohr, Senior Information Officer at the science center. “This will give them a chance to hang out with other kids and have a lot of fun. But it also encourages learning.”

The theme for this year’s Kid’s Zone is construction.

Toledo Jeep Fest organizers are planning for the event’s return the weekend of Aug. 6.

“Toledo Jeep Fest organizers are looking forward to returning in 2021 to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Jeep and Toledo, Ohio – HOME of the Jeep and the amazing workforce that makes it all happen,” organizers said in a statement to The Blade. “We’re grateful for steadfast supporters like Lucas County, and we’re optimistic that an 80th celebration can be possible this year. Additional details about the 2021 event will be announced later this month.”

The Lucas County commissioners are scheduled to vote Tuesday on approving community funding for the Toledo Jeep Fest 2021, according to agenda documents distributed Friday afternoon.

TOLEDO (WTVG) – Officials with the Toledo Jeep Fest have announced the 2020 event will be canceled due to concerns around the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to a statement released to 13abc, the Board of Directors unanimously decided to cancel the event, scheduled for August 7-9 in and around downtown Toledo.

Having already devastated many businesses and workers, the coronavirus claimed a new victim — the 2020 Toledo Jeep Fest, which was expected to draw thousands of visitors to downtown Toledo the weekend of Aug. 7-9 and give the city a huge economic shot in the arm.

The popular event, which concluded its third edition last August and drew 70,000 people including visitors from 27 states, was officially canceled Saturday by organizers who had been planning the event since September but could find no way to stage it safely with the pandemic likely to still be a deadly threat three months hence.
